Children with cell phones
I have many cousins who are still in Elementary School who have cell phones. I got a cell phone when I turend 16-started driving, and had to pay for it myself. Obviously these children cannot drive and usually their parents know where they are at all times. Then why do they have cell phones? I don't get it. My best friend works at a cell phone store and says that parents come in with their children all of them time and are buying them blackberrys and razrs and such. These kids are just going to break or loose them on the play ground. When should we draw the line? Most of the time I feel like such a hypocrite for talking about children, because I don't have any yet, so I really have no idea how to raise them. But, I think for your 12th birthday, a cell phone is a little much.

I am with you kiddo. Trust me you are no hypocrite. You speak with wisdom. My youngest child is the only one to have his own cell in HS and that was one of those pay as you go plans from Virgin. I paid the minimum and he paid anything over. What did he do when he got his first "real phone"? He took it into the swimming pool. Then he found out how much one costs without the contract!
I couldn't have said it better myself! I am a mom so I will speak on this subject! My oldest child is 10 years old and in the 5th grade. He has been going to school with kids for 2+ years that carry cell phones. It's absurd! At 8, 9 and even 10 years old...I know where my kid is...at all times! He wants a cell phone so bad he can't see straight! It's funy though, I managed to make all the way to TWENTY years old without a cell phone and did just fine! I tell him...maybe, MAYBE when he is 16 and driving, I might get him a cell phone. Any earlier and it's just ridiculous!!!
